1st graders have been learning how to create patterns in art. I introduced them to landscapes for this project and combined the landscapes with patterns. We talked about landscapes and how artists draw/paint them to introduce the lesson. Then, students drew a simple landscape, outlined with black Sharpies and added black patterns to the foreground or background.
On the second day we added color patterns to the rest of the landscape and framed them with color paper. Each student had a pattern handout to look at for ideas but they came up with most of their own.
